Travails before Travel


Pre Travel Travails

On an evening on the ides of March 2014, a marketing executive walked in with his bag and smile, typical of any marketing executive. Being a practicing doctor of several years, I had naturally mistaken him for a medical representative.
"Which products do you want me to prescribe?"
"No sir, I am not a medical salesman. I am here to inform you that we recently opened a franchise office of Cox and Kngs"
"Oh really? Any special deals for this summer vacation?"
"We do have summer packages to Europe, Australia and USA"
"We have already visited Australia and USA. I want to know more about your Europe packages"
With this, he delved into his bag and produced brochures describing various types of Europe tours. Some were just "Glimpses of Europe" for 5-6 days and some were "All of Europe" for 28 days or more. I wanted to select something in between. So I had selected "Passionate Europe" for 21 days. The brochure said most of Europe was covered and this particular tour had a Mediterranean cruise thrown in for free. Naturally that was my choice.
"The price varies depending on the Euro-Rupee fluctuation Sir", the Executive replied in answer to my question about the price tag. "But first you have to deposit a non-refundable amount of Rs 5000/- to confirm your berths.
I told him I will let him know the next days after thoroughly going through the itinerary of the tour on their website and after discussing the same with my wife.
